Paneer Chili

This Indo-Chinese dish is famous in the South Asian region and is typically served as an appetizer in bars and restaurants.  It’s packed with flavor from the marinated paneer (cottage cheese), spices, and soy sauce, and the crunchy vegetables add a delicious texture.

Ingredients
  

Base

  • 1 lbs paneer, cut into cubes
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into squares
  • 1/2 onion, cut into squares
  • 4 garlic cloves, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 inch ginger, finely chopped

Spice Mix

  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • 1 tsp salt according to taste
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Scallions/cilantro for garnish
  • 2 tsp Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, marinate the paneer with salt, pepper, and chaat masala and set aside for 10 minutes
  • In a pan, heat some oil over medium to high heat. Add the marinated paneer and sauté until golden brown on all sides(apporximately 5 to 7 minutes). Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add more oil if needed. Once the pan is hot, add the chopped vegetables, followed by the ginger, garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir constantly and cook for a couple of minutes, until the vegetables are crisp.
  • Add the cooked paneer back to the pan, along with the soy sauce and paprika. Mix well to coat everything evenly.
  • Taste and adjust the spices as needed. Garnish with scallions/cilantro and sesame seeds. Serve hot.
